"CaixaBank respalda la carrera de la Sala Familiar Ronald McDonald en Murcia por segundo año consecutivo"

MURCIA, 28 Nov. - CaixaBank is sponsoring the second edition of the race organized by the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, which will take place on Sunday, January 28, 2024, starting at 10:00 a.m., according to sources from the organization in a statement.

This sports and family event, which aims to raise funds and support the Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation, will consist of a five-kilometer route through the streets of downtown Murcia, starting and finishing at the Gran Vía Escultor Francisco Salzillo, near the CaixaBank building.

The sporting event, organized by the Ronald McDonald Family Room located at the Maternity and Children's Hospital of the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, has the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, the Sports Department of the Murcia City Council, CaixaBank, El Corte Inglés, and the ENAE Business School, among other collaborators.

The race will include three main competitions: an adult race, a family march, and a non-competitive children's race.

After the success of the previous edition, which saw the participation of more than 1,000 runners, the organization hopes to double this number in the next edition.

The presentation was attended by the Regional director of CaixaBank in Murcia, Juan Jesús Lozano; the Sports Councilor of the Murcia City Council, Miguel Ángel Noguera; the Councilor for Social Welfare, Family and Health, Pilar Torres; the coordinator of the Ronald McDonald Family Room, Eva Conesa; the Communications director of El Corte Inglés in Murcia, Santiago Sánchez; and the coordinator of Employment, Development, Orientation, and CSR at ENAE, Pedro David López.

The Regional director of CaixaBank stated that "this initiative, which combines sports and solidarity, faithfully reflects the values that CaixaBank upholds: effort, overcoming, and, above all, social responsibility."

"Through our sponsorship, we not only want to support a noble cause, such as helping hospitalized children and their families, but also promote a healthy and active lifestyle in the Region of Murcia," Lozano emphasized.

The Sports Councilor of the Murcia City Council pointed out that "the great work carried out by the Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation deserves a large turnout and the support of the people of Murcia."

"At the Murcia City Council, we firmly believe that charity races have a positive impact on the different interest groups that make up the citizens of the city of Murcia," Noguera added.

For her part, the Councilor for Social Welfare, Family and Health stated that "in the city of Murcia, we are national leaders in having one of the Family Rooms that the Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation has distributed worldwide, performing an exemplary job of supporting the families of hospitalized children at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital. That is why it is fundamental for us to recognize and support the great work they are doing."

The coordinator of the Ronald McDonald Family Room highlighted that "this is a charity race whose proceeds will be used to maintain the Family Room we have at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital."

"Sunday, January 28 will be a family day. For this reason, we have created different races with different profiles, so that regardless of age, everyone can enjoy a day full of solidarity and sports," Conesa added.

The collection of race numbers will take place on Saturday, January 27 at the Sports department of El Corte Inglés in Murcia, and on Sunday, January 29 at the starting area, minutes before the start of the race. Participants will receive a runner's bag, thanks to the collaboration of several charitable companies.

In addition, for those who cannot attend but wish to contribute, there will be a 'virtual number' available. Like in the previous edition, it will be sponsored by CaixaBank, allowing participation in solidarity from a distance.

From this Tuesday morning, registrations are open to participate in any of the modalities offered by the race, as well as the 'virtual number' to support the Family Room at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital.

CaixaBank is the main sponsor of nearly 50 traditional athletics events in the country, such as the Murcia Marathon, the Barcelona Jean Bouin, the Valencia Marathon and Half Marathon, the Pamplona Running of the Walls, the Formentera Half Marathon and 10K, the Zaragoza Marathon and Half Marathon, the Pontevedra Half Marathon, the Roncesvalles Zubiri, as well as the traditional San Silvestre races in Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, and Alcantarilla.

The Family Room is part of one of the seven programs developed by the Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation in Spain, with the aim of creating, searching, and supporting initiatives that directly improve the well-being of sick children and their families.

Located at the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital Clínico in Murcia, it covers 160 square meters and stands out for its cheerful and functional design. It has a kitchen and dining area, a rest area, a lounge area with a television, showers, lockers, and an activities and play area for the siblings of the hospitalized children.
